Always place the machine in the horizontal position (flat). This will increase the lifespan of your DVD-ROM’s laser, lower the risk of having discs scratched and ensure proper reading of discs without errors. In my experience this also reduces the risk of RROD.

Never move the console while it is powered on.

Ensure proper airflow over the console by placing it in an open, well-ventilated area when in use. DO NOT place it on other equipment such as DVD-players etc. that give off heat and never put it in confined spaces such as a cabinet. Overheating is the biggest problem with Xbox consoles. I would even recommend placing a fan directly in front of the machine on hot days to help keep the system cool.
