Experienced Live-In Caregiver

We are currently seeking a third staff member to join our household team in taking care of a family with 2 elderly parents. You must therefore have experience in elder care. We have no small children, only grandchildren that come to visit occasionally. You must also have excellent housekeeping skills (washing, ironing, cleaning, grocery shopping, etc) and have a natural talent for cooking because we do a lot of eating around here.

If you cannot drive, you must be willing to learn how to drive when you arrive since we need you to be able to drive the elderly around eventually.

If you cannot swim, you must be willing to take the lessons we provide for you since we have no intention of allowing anyone to drown in our swimming pool.

We have many pets including dogs, cats, and a very large parrot who is extremely spoiled and controls the household and will insist on watching you cook (and demand to taste tidbits as you go along) - so if you have a fear of animals or do not enjoy animals this is NOT the job for you! Our pets are our children.

We are not seeking a person who will just come and do their job. We want someone to come and enjoy their job because it is a job of prime importance in this household. If you are numb from many bad experiences, do not smile, and cannot laugh, we have no use for you here. Please leave the pain of your previous positions behind and look at your job here with us as a window that has opened for fresh air and a new beginning.

We are seeking people who have long term goals to reunite their family together in Canada one day and follow their dream. We believe in family and understand that everyone has a dream in life and your dream should not be to remain in our employ for life but in our employ long enough to have learned something and have prepared for a new life in our wonderful country. Part of our joy as employers is to see you happy because this means that you will keep us happy. It is a win-win situation for all of us. If we can help you in this goal, it is our pleasure as you will have taken care of us, so we will take care of you. If you enjoy your job with us and make it a career, you will join the Canadian workforce as it is now and balance your work life with us with the demands of your family – just as every other Canadian family does – and you will have job security with us.

If this sounds like a position you may be interested in, this is what you need to keep in mind:

1. Please understand that you must meet the requirements to come to Canada - you must currently be in a live-in caregiver position - don't waste our time if you are not since Canada Immigration will not accept less. Don't email me stories of how you are currently taking care of your elderly mother and think you have the qualifications. You will not meet the criteria set out by the live-in caregiver program.

2. If you cannot cook, please - again - do not waste our time. I am a horrible, horrible cook and have killed enough people in my home with my cooking - we don't need another person at the house who also has the ability to kill innocent guests with their cooking disasters (smile). You cannot pretend to be good - if you do not understand the concepts of taste and seasoning and improvising in an emergency, it will show within the first 12 hours hours of your arrival and you'll be stressed trying to live up to what you told us you could do and we'll be hungry (not to mention, angry).

3. If you don't love animals, please don't bother applying. It is obvious when someone does not care for animals and teaching someone to love animals is not possible - it must come from the heart.

4. Please don't tell tales on your resume - because of our concern for security, we have the power and the finances to run complete checks on all information given - schooling, references, employers, and so forth - and we will use that power to insure that you are who you say you are and have done what you say you have done. Any unexplained descrepencies will cause you to lose your opportunity of employment with us immediately. If you lie on your resume, you'll eventually lie to us in the workplace so we quickly eliminate any chance of that possibilty right from the beginning by placing a quesitonable resume in the rubbidh bin. Be honest. We're looking for a simple human being that is a good worker - we are not looking for someone that can stand beside Christ in perfection. If you could, you would make us look bad because we're far from perfect.

5. If you only have child care experience and no elder care experience, please don't bother to apply. We need someone who is trained in dealing with parents who are old but still believe they can do anything (and pay the price for it). While our parents are sweet and respectful, they can be challenging as they get older. If you're experienced in eldercare, I don't need to tell you that!

Please send us a resume with an explanation about who you are and where you have been.

Please send us a picture of yourself so we know who we are corresponding with.

Please tell us about yourself, the jobs you have had and where you are currently working.

If we feel that you may be a candidate for the position we are currently trying to fill you will be emailing with us back and forth getting to know us. We will probably interview you in the country you curently live in.

We will then proceed with the necessary paperwork, get you over to Canada and get you set up in your new life so we can all move forward.

We are excellent employers seeking a joyful person who wants to be well treated in exchange for keeping the family running smoothly and our elderly moving! (smile) We are busy around here and life is chaotic much of the time but we have a lot of fun also. This is what life is all about afterall isn't it?
_________________________________
