  • Afghan Education Foundation - Washington DC
The Afghan Education Foundation (AEF) is a non-profit organization founded solely to benefit Afghan children with educational programs in 1998 by a small, but dedicated group of Afghan expatriates living in the Metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. The group's sole mission is to share some of the blessings that providence had bestowed on them in the United States with the Afghan children. With the strong belief that education holds the answers to many of Afghanistan's problems and dismayed by the complete lack of educational resources available, the group embarked upon an ambitious program to revitalize the educational infrastructure of the country one school at a time, while helping to educate the future generation of Afghans one child at a time. What began with a single project to renovate the science lab of Zahir Shahi High School evolved into multiple successful projects consisting of a library, printing press, several computer labs at area high schools, computer programming courses, land survey training, English courses in Kandahar and Wardag provinces and various vocational training courses. As a result, more than 3,700 students have been trained and many more continue to pursue their educational goals.
