A small town in Karnataka, India, called Khanapur, with only a population of 18, 535 people, speaking three different languages, is lush green and is home to white and redware pottery. Khanapur is also famous for national level pottery institute run by Village Industries Commission. But it’s the local artisans ‘Kumbhar’ who have kept the craft alive for generations.
This simplistic yet serene craft was traditionally used to make household clayware. The white coloured clay, when baked in the kiln brings hue of red in casual patterns, adding an unintentional hint of colour.
