Surgery May Be Necessary If:
1. Complete ACL Tear – MRI or clinical tests show a full ligament rupture. Your knee is unstable or gives way during daily activities.
2. You’re Active or an Athlete – You play sports that involve pivoting, jumping, or quick stops (e.g., football, basketball, skiing). You want to return to competitive sports or a physically demanding job.
3. You’ve Tried Physiotherapy but Still Have Instability – After 6–8 weeks of rehab, your knee remains weak or unstable. You can't resume normal walking, running, or climbing stairs comfortably.
4. You Have Associated Injuries – Meniscus damage, cartilage tears, or MCL/PCL injuries may require a combined surgical approach.
You can consult with an orthopaedic surgeon or sports medicine specialist at hospitals or sports clinics such as: Singapore General Hospital (SGH), National University Hospital (NUH), OrthoSports Centre.
