1. Follow Post-Surgery Instructions Strictly - Your surgeon will provide a recovery plan. This may include: Keeping weight off the foot, Elevating the foot, Wearing a post-op shoe or boot. Failing to follow these can delay healing or cause complications.
2. Reduce Swelling with Ice and Elevation - Ice your foot for 15–20 minutes every few hours (first 48–72 hours). Keep your foot elevated above heart level to reduce swelling
3. Keep Pressure Off Your Foot - Use crutches or a walker if needed. Avoid putting weight on the operated foot until cleared by your doctor. Walking too early may disrupt healing.
4. Watch for Signs of Infection - Monitor your incision site for: Redness, Swelling, Warmth, Pus or unusual discharge, Fever, If you see these, contact your surgeon immediately.
5. Wear Proper Footwear During Recovery - Post-op shoes or protective boots should be worn as advised. Transition to supportive footwear with a wide toe box once cleared. Avoid heels or narrow shoes.
