Daily Cleaning Routine
1. Rinse After Every Use - Always rinse your retainers with lukewarm water when you remove them. Avoid hot water as it can warp the plastic.
2. Gentle Brushing - Use a soft-bristled toothbrush (different from the one you use on your teeth). Brush gently with mild, clear antibacterial soap (not toothpaste—since it’s abrasive and can scratch the surface).
3. Avoid Harsh Chemicals - Never use bleach, alcohol-based cleaners, or boiling water. These can damage or discolor retainers.
Deep Cleaning (2–3 Times a Week) - Soak retainers in a cleaning solution such as:
Retainer cleaning tablets (follow instructions).
Homemade solution: Mix equal parts white vinegar and lukewarm water, soak for 15–20 minutes, then brush and rinse.
Hydrogen peroxide & water (1:1) for 15 minutes can help disinfect and whiten.
Don’t eat or drink (except water) with retainers in place—this prevents staining and buildup. Avoid chewing gum or biting down on retainers, as this may crack or distort them. Keep retainers away from pets—dogs especially love chewing on them.
