History and Establishment
The Chandra Shekhar Singh Ayurved Sansthan was founded in 2014, though some records indicate operational beginnings around 2016-17. It was established under the auspices of the Raizada Foundation, a body committed to educational and healthcare initiatives. Named after the late Shri Chandra Shekhar Singh, the institution honors his legacy as a visionary leader. While biographical details on the founder are sparse, he is remembered as the chairman who envisioned an institute that would nurture ethical Ayurvedic physicians capable of addressing modern health challenges.
The sansthan's inception came at a time when India was pushing for the integration of traditional medicine into mainstream healthcare. Approved by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) and affiliated with Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University in Gorakhpur, CSSAS has received permissions for undergraduate and postgraduate courses up to the 2025-26 academic session. This affiliation ensures that its curriculum aligns with national standards, incorporating both classical Ayurvedic texts and contemporary research.
The Raizada Foundation's management has been instrumental in the sansthan's growth. From humble beginnings in Kaushambi district, it has evolved into a recognized center for Ayurvedic education. The foundation's focus on value-based education echoes the broader goal of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) to promote holistic wellness. Over the years, CSSAS has hosted events like national seminars and yoga celebrations, reinforcing its commitment to cultural preservation.
Founder's Vision and Mission
Late Shri Chandra Shekhar Singh's vision for the sansthan was rooted in blending ancient philosophies with modern science. He aimed to create an environment where students could develop not just professional skills but also moral character through the synergy of science and spirituality. This philosophy is evident in the institution's mission statement, which emphasizes providing excellent traditional Ayurvedic treatments by dedicated doctors.
In a world grappling with lifestyle diseases, Singh's foresight in establishing an Ayurvedic institute was prophetic. The sansthan seeks to produce physicians who are "world-class" in their expertise yet grounded in ethical values. This approach addresses the criticism that traditional medicine lacks scientific validation by incorporating evidence-based practices. The mission also includes community outreach, ensuring that Ayurvedic benefits reach rural populations in Uttar Pradesh.
Location and Campus
Nestled in Saiyad Sarawa, near Puramufti in Koilaha, Kaushambi, the sansthan is strategically located on NH-19, the Allahabad-Kanpur Road. Just 7 km from Prayagraj Airport, it's easily accessible for students from across India. The 1.38-acre campus provides a serene, green environment conducive to learning and healing.
The campus features modern buildings with blue and white accents, surrounded by trees and open spaces. This setting not only promotes tranquility but also aligns with Ayurvedic principles of harmony with nature. Students often describe the campus as a "peaceful oasis" amid the bustling region, ideal for focused studies and practical training.
Academic Programs
At the core of CSSAS is its robust academic offerings. The flagship program is the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), a 5.5-year course including a one-year internship. With an intake of 60 students annually, it covers foundational subjects like anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology through an Ayurvedic lens.
For advanced learners, the sansthan offers postgraduate programs: M.D./M.S. in Shalya Tantra (Surgery), Prasuti Tantra evam Stri Roga (Obstetrics and Gynecology), and Roga Nidan evam Vikriti Vigyan (Pathology and Diagnosis). These programs, approved by NCISM, focus on specialized treatments and research.
The curriculum integrates classical texts like Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita with modern diagnostics. Practical training includes herbal identification, Panchakarma therapies, and surgical procedures adapted to Ayurveda. Examinations are conducted under the university's guidelines, with internal assessments ensuring continuous evaluation.
Admission Process
Admission to BAMS is merit-based through the NEET-UG exam, followed by Uttar Pradesh Ayush NEET Counselling conducted by the state AYUSH society. Eligibility requires a Class 12 science background with physics, chemistry, and biology, and a minimum age of 17.
For PG courses, admissions occur via counseling by the U.P. AYUSH Department. The process is transparent, with cutoffs varying annually. While 2025 cutoffs were not available, prospective students are advised to check the official website for updates.
