A Denting, Painting, and Polishing technician (often called an Auto Body Technician or Auto Painter) is responsible for restoring, repairing, and refinishing the exterior body of vehicles to their original or improved condition. This role involves repairing damaged metal or plastic panels, applying primer and paint, and achieving a high-gloss finish through buffing and polishing.
Key Job Responsibilities
Denting (Bodywork/Panel Beating):
Inspect vehicles to assess the extent of damage.
Remove damaged components and panels.
Hammer out dents, straighten frames, and repair sheet metal.
Fill cavities and dents with putty (filler) to create a smooth surface.
Use heat guns to mold plastic components.
Painting (Refinishing):
Prepare surfaces for painting by sanding, cleaning, degreasing, and masking off areas not to be painted.
Mix paints to match existing colors using computerized technology.
Apply primer, base coat, and clear coat using spray guns in a ventilated booth.
Inspect painted surfaces for flaws such as sags or dust.
Polishing (Finishing):
Buff and polish the finished paintwork to remove scratches, swirls, and imperfections.
Apply waxes, protective coatings, and sealants to restore shine and protect the paint.
Administrative & Safety:
Estimate repair costs and material needs.
Maintain tools and equipment in a clean and safe working condition.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Technical Skills: Proficiency with spray guns, sanders, grinders, welding machines, and buffing tools.
Attention to Detail: Ability to achieve a seamless, high-quality, and color-matched finish.
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and work in awkward, bending positions.
Experience: Usually requires 1-5 years of experience in automotive body repair.
Knowledge: Understanding of automotive paint systems, chemical safety, and, in some cases, PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) techniques.
10 hours duty + Overtime.
BHD100.000 Salary.
