A Petrol Mechanic (Automotive Service Technician) diagnoses, repairs, and maintains gasoline-powered vehicles, focusing on engines, fuel systems, and routine maintenance. Responsibilities include engine diagnostics, brake repairs, oil/filter changes, and using specialized tools to ensure vehicles operate safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnostics: Using computerized diagnostic equipment to identify engine, transmission, and electronic issues.
Maintenance: Performing routine services such as oil changes, fluid flushes, tire rotations, and belt inspections.
Repair: Fixing or replacing broken parts, including brakes, fuel injection systems, and suspension components.
Technical Work: Adjusting ignition timing, tuning carburetors, and calibrating sensors.
Documentation: Writing detailed work orders, explaining repairs to clients, and maintaining service records.
Safety: Adhering to safety procedures, such as proper lifting techniques and using PPE.
Requirements and Skills
Experience: Proven experience as a petrol mechanic, often 3–5 years.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or ASE certification is highly preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic software.
Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy equipment and stand for long hours.
Communication: Strong problem-solving skills and ability to explain technical issues to customers.
