Core Responsibilities
Garment Construction & Stitching: Designing, cutting, and sewing traditional North Indian garments (Saree blouses, Salwar kameez, Kurti, Lehenga, Gharara) from scratch.
Measurement & Fitting: Taking accurate body measurements and conducting fitting sessions to ensure the garment fits perfectly, particularly for bridal wear and heavy embroidered outfits.
Alterations & Repairs: Modifying existing garments to improve fit—taking in/letting out seams, adjusting lengths, or resizing—and repairing damage like broken zippers or tears.
Styling & Design Advice: Providing expert advice to clients on suitable fabrics, designs, and current trends (e.g. neckline styles, sleeve lengths).
Finishing & Quality Control: Adding intricate finishing touches such as piping, buttonholes, lining, lace, and hooks. Final inspection of garments for quality, pressing (ironing), and removing marks before delivery.
Client Consultation: Interacting directly with clients to understand their specific preferences for weddings or special occasions.
Key Skills & Qualifications
Technical Proficiency: Expert skill in hand-stitching and operating industrial sewing machines.
Drafting & Cutting: Ability to create patterns and cut fabric efficiently on the table.
Knowledge of Fabrics: Understanding different materials (silk, chiffon, georgette, velvet) and how to handle them during sewing.
