1. Document Review & Preparation
Review all project documents such as P&ID, Isometric Drawings, GA Drawings, Plot Plans, and Specifications.
Study and implement ITP (Inspection & Test Plan) and method statements.
Verify material test certificates (MTC) and compliance with project requirements.
Ensure latest approved drawings and revisions are used at site.
2. Material Inspection
Perform incoming material inspection for pipes, fittings, flanges, gaskets, and valves.
Check size, rating, material grade, heat number, and traceability.
Ensure materials comply with codes and standards (ASME, ASTM, API).
Maintain material inspection records and logs.
3. Fit-Up & Welding Inspection
Inspect fit-up condition before welding (alignment, root gap, bevel angle).
Ensure welding is done as per WPS (Welding Procedure Specification).
Verify welder qualification (WQT) and validity as per ASME Section IX.
Monitor welding parameters such as current, voltage, preheat, interpass temperature.
Conduct in-process and final visual inspection (VT) of weld joints.
4. NDT Coordination & Verification
Coordinate and witness Non-Destructive Testing (NDT):
Radiographic Testing (RT)
Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
Dye Penetrant Testing (PT)
Review and verify NDT reports and ensure acceptance criteria are met.
Maintain NDT traceability and records.
5. Piping Installation Inspection
Inspect routing, alignment, orientation, and slope of piping systems.
Verify installation of pipe supports, hangers, guides, and anchors.
Check proper valve installation and accessibility.
Ensure compliance with isometric drawings and project specifications.
6. Pressure Testing & Pre-Commissioning
Witness and monitor hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing.
Verify test package, test pressure, holding time, and calibration of gauges.
Ensure proper line flushing, air blowing, and cleaning activities.
Check reinstatement of lines after testing.
7. Documentation & Reporting
Prepare and maintain:
Inspection reports (IRs)
Welding logs
NDT reports
Hydrotest reports
Punch lists
Update QA/QC dossiers and Mechanical Completion Records (MDR).
Maintain proper traceability of materials and weld joints.
8. Punch List & Handover
Identify and record punch points (A/B/C category).
Ensure all punch items are closed before final handover.
Participate in mechanical completion and final inspection with client.
9. Coordination & Communication
Coordinate with client, consultant, construction, and NDT teams.
Attend inspection requests (IR) and site walkdowns.
Provide technical support to site supervisors and engineers.
10. Safety & Compliance
Ensure all activities follow project quality standards and safety procedures.
Verify compliance with permit-to-work system.
Promote safe working practices during inspection activities.
