Quality Engineer (Gasket Manufacturing)

Job Purpose

To ensure all gasket products meet required specifications, tolerances, and quality standards from the first production stage, with strong focus on prevention and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities
🔹 1. Quality Control & Inspection
• Perform dimensional inspection (ID, OD, thickness, flatness)
• Verify tolerances according to standards (ASME, drawings)
• Conduct First Article Inspection (FAI)
• Inspect raw materials before production
• Identify defects (burrs, surface issues, deformation)

🔹 2. Prevention & Process Control
• Define acceptable tolerances for each gasket type
• Work with production team to set machine parameters
• Ensure correct material selection and usage
• Prevent defects before production starts

3. Documentation & Reporting
• Prepare inspection reports
• Maintain quality records
• Track non-conformities and corrective actions
• Ensure traceability of materials and products

4. Standards & Compliance
• Follow ASME / API standards (basic understanding required)
• Ensure compliance with customer specifications
• Support future ISO 9001 implementation

5. Collaboration
• Work closely with production team (especially machine operators)
• Coordinate with procurement for material quality
• Support management in quality-related decisions

Qualifications
• Diploma or Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• 3–7 years experience in manufacturing / machining / metal works
• Experience in gasket, sealing, or precision components is a plus


Required Skills

Technical:
• Strong knowledge of measurement tools:
o Vernier caliper
o Micrometer
o Thickness gauge
• Ability to read engineering drawings
• Understanding of tolerances and fits
• Basic knowledge of materials (SS304, SS316, rubber, PTFE)
• FE)

Practical:
• Attention to detail
• Problem-solving mindset
• Ability to identify root cause of defects

Bonus (Preferred):
• Experience with laser cutting or CNC
• Knowledge of PMI testing
• Experience in oil & gas industry

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
• % of products within tolerance
• Reduction in defects and rework
• Accuracy of inspection reports
• Number of rejected items before delivery (target: ZERO)
