Responsible for designing, developing, and preparing fire alarm system layouts and technical documentation in compliance with applicable codes, standards, project specifications, and client requirements. The role involves coordination with project teams, consultants, contractors, and authorities to ensure accurate and efficient system design and successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Design fire alarm and emergency voice evacuation systems for commercial, industrial, residential, and infrastructure projects.
Prepare system layouts, shop drawings, riser diagrams, cable schedules, and equipment submittals using AutoCAD, Revit, or other design software.
Perform device calculations, battery sizing, voltage drop calculations, and network loading analysis.
Ensure designs comply with relevant standards such as NFPA 72, NFPA 70, IBC, SBC, local civil defense regulations, and project specifications.
Review tender documents, drawings, and technical specifications to develop cost-effective system designs.
Coordinate with MEP, architectural, structural, and other engineering disciplines during project development.
Prepare bill of quantities (BOQ), material take-offs, and technical documentation.
Support project teams during installation, testing, commissioning, and authority inspections.
Evaluate and select suitable fire alarm products and components based on project requirements.
Provide technical support to sales, estimation, procurement, and project execution teams.
Attend project meetings and coordinate with clients, consultants, and contractors as required.
Maintain design records and ensure document control procedures are followed.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related field.
Experience
3–7 years of experience in fire alarm system design and engineering.
Experience with addressable and conventional fire alarm systems.
Knowledge of major fire alarm manufacturers such as Honeywell, Notifier, Siemens, Edwards, Simplex, or Johnson Controls is preferred.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
Familiarity with Revit/BIM software is an advantage.
Strong understanding of NFPA 72, NFPA 70, and local fire safety regulations.
Ability to perform engineering calculations and prepare technical reports.
Knowledge of fire alarm networking and integration with other building systems.
