Mechanical Trading Specialist / Mechanical Trading Engineer – Job Description
A Mechanical Trading professional is responsible for handling the procurement, supply, quotation, and technical support of mechanical materials and equipment used in industrial, construction, oil & gas, petrochemical, and manufacturing projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Review and understand mechanical drawings, P&ID diagrams, isometric drawings, GA drawings, and technical specifications.
* Prepare and create RFQs (Request for Quotations) based on client requirements and project documentation.
* Analyze customer inquiries, technical datasheets, and material specifications.
* Identify and source mechanical materials from approved manufacturers and suppliers.
* Prepare technical and commercial quotations for clients.
* Coordinate with vendors to obtain pricing, delivery schedules, and technical compliance documents.
* Ensure materials meet project specifications, international standards, and client requirements.
* Support project teams in material selection and procurement activities.
* Maintain supplier relationships and negotiate pricing and delivery terms.
Required Technical Knowledge
The candidate should have strong knowledge of:
* Mechanical engineering drawings and diagrams.
* Piping systems and piping components.
* Flanges (Weld Neck, Slip-On, Blind, Socket Weld, Threaded, Lap Joint, etc.).
* Pipes and tubes (Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, Alloy Steel, HDPE, PVC, GRE, and other piping materials).
* Pipe fittings such as elbows, tees, reducers, couplings, caps, and unions.
* Valves including gate, globe, ball, butterfly, check, and control valves.
* Gaskets, fasteners, bolts, nuts, and stud bolts.
* Structural and mechanical materials used in industrial projects.
* Material standards such as ASME, ASTM, ANSI, API, DIN, and ISO.
* Bills of Materials (BOM) and Material Take-Offs (MTO).
Skills and Competencies
* Excellent understanding of engineering drawings and technical documents.
* Ability to prepare accurate RFQs and commercial quotations.
* Strong knowledge of mechanical trading materials and industrial products.
* Good communication and negotiation skills with suppliers and customers.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and ERP systems.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
* Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
* Experience in mechanical trading, procurement, or industrial supply.
* Knowledge of oil & gas, petrochemical, power, water, or construction industries.
This role requires a thorough understanding of mechanical materials, piping products, flanges, engineering drawings, RFQ preparation, and technical documentation to effectively support customers and project requirements.
