Job Summary

The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures at the mining project site. The role ensures compliance with company standards, client requirements, and local regulations while promoting a strong safety culture to prevent workplace incidents and injuries.

Key Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with all HSE policies, mining regulations, and client safety requirements.
Conduct daily site safety inspections and identify potential hazards.
Perform risk assessments and recommend appropriate control measures.
Conduct toolbox talks, safety inductions, and awareness training for employees and subcontractors.
Monitor the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, and prepare detailed reports.
Maintain HSE records, inspection reports, permits, and safety documentation.
Monitor high-risk activities such as drilling, blasting, excavation, lifting operations, confined space entry, and work at height.
Ensure emergency response procedures are implemented and emergency equipment is maintained.
Conduct regular safety audits and follow up on corrective actions.
Coordinate with supervisors to ensure safe work practices are followed.
Participate in client safety meetings and HSE inspections.
Stop unsafe work whenever an immediate danger to personnel or equipment is identified.
Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the project.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
NEBOSH IGC, OSHA, IOSH, or equivalent HSE certification is preferred.
Additional mining safety certifications are an advantage.
Experience
Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Safety Officer in mining, construction, or heavy industrial projects.
Previous mining project experience is highly preferred.
Experience working on international or large-scale projects is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of mining safety regulations and HSE standards.
Excellent hazard identification and risk assessment skills.
Good communication and leadership abilities.
Ability to conduct incident investigations and prepare reports.
Strong observation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and HSE reporting systems.
Ability to work under pressure in remote mining environments.
Key Responsibilities in Mining Operations
Monitor drilling, blasting, crushing, hauling, and excavation activities.
Ensure safe operation of heavy mining equipment.
Verify work permits and isolation procedures before high-risk activities.
Inspect fire protection systems, first aid facilities, and emergency response equipment.
Ensure environmental compliance, including dust control, waste management, and pollution prevention.

IOSH Managing Safely
OSHA 30-Hour
First Aid & CPR Certification
Fire Warden / Fire Fighting Training
H2S Awareness (if applicable)
