KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Perform atmospheric testing for oxygen levels, flammable gases, and toxic gases using IMI-approved, calibrated gas detectors, always ensuring equipment functionality and correct use.
•Verify atmospheric conditions meet IMI acceptable entry criteria before authorizing confined space entry or hot work; withhold/withdraw authorization and stop work where readings are out of limit or conditions change.
•Conduct continuous or periodic atmospheric monitoring as required by the permit, risk assessment, or work conditions, and record all readings accurately on permits and gas test logs.
•Report immediately any unsafe atmospheric conditions (e.g., oxygen deficiency/enrichment, flammable gas presence, or toxic gas levels) to the Confined Space Entry Supervisor (CSES) and initiate stop-work actions without delay.
•Support the CSES in verifying isolation, ventilation, purging, and other preparatory steps before confined space entry or hot work begins.
•Participate in toolbox talks and communicate atmospheric hazards, monitoring requirements, and precautions to entrants, fire watchers, and supervisors.
•Assist in emergency response by providing real-time atmospheric readings and supporting rescue teams as required, without entering the confined space under any circumstances.
•Verify (as part of pre-entry checks) that tools, hoses, cables, and equipment intended for use in confined spaces comply with IMI safety requirements (e.g., grounding where required and prohibition of cylinders inside confined spaces) and escalate any non-compliance to the CSES/supervisor for correction prior to entry.
•Work primarily field-based to support permits and monitoring, in line with assigned weekly schedules (regular or shift-based), with associated documentation/reporting duties as required.
•Perform additional HSE-related tasks assigned by the direct supervisor to support operational safety, compliance, and effective execution of confined space and hot work activities.
Education
Diploma or High school certificate or technical/vocational certificate (minimum).
•Additional technical training in safety or industrial operations preferred

•NEBOSH HSW
•Hot Work / Fire Watch Training (preferred).
•Basic Firefighting Training (preferred).
•Authorized Gas Tester Certification (mandatory).
•Confined Space Entry Training (mandatory).
•Hot Work Safety Training (preferred).
•Calibration and gas detection equipment training (advantage).
•Basic First Aid & CPR (preferred).
Competencies
Strong understanding of atmospheric hazards (oxygen deficiency, enrichment, flammable gases, toxic gases).
•Ability to operate, calibrate, and interpret readings from gas detection equipment.
•Knowledge of IMI Confined Space and Hot Work procedures.
•Ability to identify unsafe conditions and exercise Stop Work Authority.
•Strong communication and reporting skills.
•High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
Experience
Minimum 6 - 9 years of experience in industrial safety, gas testing, or shipyard operations.
•Previous experience in confined space or hot work environments preferred
