Major Responsibilities as a Safety Officer
As a part of HSEDepartment, I was responsible for the following tasks:
1. Health & Safety Management
Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies, procedures, and management systems.
Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
Ensure compliance with local and international health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Monitor and evaluate workplace safety performance and implement continuous improvement plans.
Develop and conduct toolbox talks, safety drills, and awareness sessions for all site personnel.
2. Risk Assessment & Control
Carry out Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and develop Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS).
Implement preventive measures to reduce incidents, injuries, and unsafe acts/conditions.
Review and approve work permits (PTW) for hot work, confined space, lifting, excavation, and electrical activities.
3. Incident Management
Lead investigations of accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions to identify root causes.
Prepare detailed incident reports and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
Ensure proper reporting and documentation of all HSE-related incidents as per company and legal requirements.
4. Training & Awareness
Conduct HSE orientation and induction training for new employees and subcontractors.
Organize regular refresher training on fire safety, first aid, PPE usage, and emergency response.
Promote a strong safety culture through campaigns and employee engagement programs.
5. Environmental Management
Monitor waste management, emissions, and water usage to ensure environmental compliance.
Support implementation of sustainability and pollution control initiatives.
Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
6. Emergency Preparedness
Develop and maintain site emergency response plans and evacuation procedures.
Conduct regular fire drills and coordinate with local emergency services.
Ensure all fire safety equipment and emergency alarms are regularly inspected and functional.
7. Reporting & Documentation
Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and audits.
Submit weekly and monthly HSE performance reports to management.
Assist in preparing documentation for HSE certifications and audits.
8. Coordination & Compliance
Liaise with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure safety requirements are met.
Coordinate with client HSE representatives during site visits and inspections.
Ensure that PPE and safety signage are available, adequate, and properly used at all times.
