Safety Technician
Role Overview
The Safety Technician plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, healthy, and compliant working environment. This position is responsible for conducting routine safety inspections, monitoring workplace conditions, ensuring adherence to local and international safety regulations (such as OSHA or equivalent standards), and supporting the implementation of occupational health and safety programs. The ideal candidate is highly observant, proactive, and committed to fostering a culture of safety across all operations.
Key Responsibilities
Inspections & Audits: Conduct regular site walkthroughs, hazard assessments, and safety audits to identify risks, unsafe behaviors, or non-compliance issues.
Equipment Maintenance: Inspect and maintain safety and emergency equipment, including fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, first-aid kits, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Incident Investigation: Assist in investigating workplace accidents, near-misses, or injuries; document findings and help develop corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
Compliance & Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records, incident logs, and compliance documentation. Prepare routine safety reports for management.
Training Support: Assist in delivering safety orientations for new hires, contractors, and existing staff. Facilitate or support "toolbox talks" and safety meetings.
Emergency Response: Serve as a key member of the emergency response team, ensuring evacuation routes are clear and drills are conducted systematically.
Hazard Communication: Ensure proper labeling, handling, and storage of hazardous chemicals or materials in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate’s degree or technical certification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is highly preferred.
Certifications: Professional safety credentials such as OSHA 10/30-hour, NEBOSH IGC, IOSH, or equivalent local regulatory safety certifications.
Experience: 2+ years of experience working as a safety assistant, technician, or in a dedicated safety-focused role within manufacturing, construction, logistics, or a similar industrial environment.
