As a Civil Engineer, I fully support the use of precast slab systems. They are lightweight, more economical than conventional RCC slabs, and perform better during earthquakes because the reduced weight results in lower seismic forces.

In Saudi Arabia, precast slab systems are widely used and can reduce construction costs by around 60% compared to traditional RCC slabs, depending on the project.

The proper construction sequence is:

- Install the precast slab panels.
- Fill all joints properly.
- Apply a 10 mm plaster layer.
- Install a waterproofing membrane.
- Lay a polyethylene sheet.
- Cast a 2-inch concrete topping.
- Finish with tile installation.

If executed correctly, this system is durable, reliable, and can last for decades without leakage while significantly reducing the dead load on the structure.

For double-storey houses, I recommend using a 5-inch RCC slab at the ground floor and a precast slab system for the first floor. This reduces the load on the foundation, improves seismic performance, and lowers the overall construction cost.

I followed the same approach in my own house—my ground floor is RCC, and I am preparing to use a precast slab system for the upper floor.

Unfortunately, many people in Pakistan reject new technologies without evaluating them technically. The rest of the world has largely shifted toward precast construction because it is lighter, faster, and more economical. Meanwhile, we are still spending unnecessary money on traditional girders (T-iron) and heavy RCC slabs instead of adopting modern engineering solutions.
