📐 Instrument Engineer Responsibilities

The Instrument Engineer is responsible for the technical integrity, engineering calculations, and system integration of the plant controls. System Programming: Design and configure Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).Design Review: Review and approve engineering documents like Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Instrument Loop Diagrams, Hook-up drawings, and Cable Schedules. Technical Specification: Prepare technical data sheets and material requisitions for procurement of control valves, transmitters, and analytical systems. Calibration Standards: Define the precise parameters, ranges, and calculation metrics for all field instruments. Vendor Coordination: Liaise with system vendors (e.g., Honeywell, Yokogawa, Emerson) to troubleshoot hardware and software integrations. Pre-Commissioning: Develop detailed testing procedures for functional loop checks and final plant commissioning.


Instrument Supervisor Responsibilities

The Instrument Supervisor is a field role focused on leading crews, meeting daily schedules, and ensuring safe hands-on installation. Crew Management: Direct and allocate tasks to field instrument technicians, tubing fitters, and cable pullers. Permit to Work (PTW): Act as the critical link for safety by obtaining necessary Work Permits (Cold, Hot, Confined Space) from the client operators. Field Installation: Supervise the physical mounting of instruments, construction of cable trays, and installation of impulse tubing. Loop Testing Execution: Lead the field technician teams during physical loop checking, continuity testing, and megger testing of signal cables. Material Control: Verify that incoming field materials match the engineering bill of quantities and store delicate instruments securely. Daily Progress Tracking: Report daily installation targets, tool requirements, and manpower bottlenecks to the construction manager.
