Fire Assay Technician Job Description
Job purpose: Perform fire assay operations for precious metal analysis in accordance with approved methods, safety controls, and quality requirements.
• Prepare fluxes, weigh samples, conduct fusion, cupellation, prill handling, parting, and related preparation steps.
• Operate furnaces, balances, molds, cupels, crucibles, and associated tools safely.
• Follow quality control requirements including blanks, duplicates, standards, and re-assay instructions.
• Record observations, weights, furnace conditions, batch details, and deviations accurately.
• Keep the fire assay area clean and promptly report any refractory, furnace, ventilation, or safety issues.

Qualifications required:
Diploma or bachelor’s degree in chemistry, metallurgy, laboratory technology, or equivalent technical training; 3–6 years of practical fire assay experience in gold, silver, or precious metals testing. Must be competent in weighing, flux preparation, fusion, cupellation, Prill handling, parting, furnace operation, batch documentation, and QC requirements. Training in heat stress, lead exposure control, PPE, ventilation, and emergency response is required.
