Contracts & Commercial Engineer – Construction

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Contracts & Commercial Engineer to join our construction team in Bahrain. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in construction contracts, commercial management, cost control, quantity surveying, variations, claims, and subcontract administration.

The candidate must have proven GCC experience in civil/building construction projects and be capable of managing the commercial and contractual aspects of projects from tender stage through completion.

Key Responsibilities
Manage and administer construction contracts in accordance with contractual requirements.
Review contract agreements, BOQs, specifications, drawings, and commercial terms.
Monitor project costs, budgets, cash flow, and overall commercial performance.
Prepare and evaluate variations, claims, extensions of time, and contractual notices.
Prepare interim payment applications, valuations, and final accounts.
Review and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
Prepare commercial comparisons and assist with subcontractor negotiations.
Monitor subcontractor contracts, payments, variations, and commercial performance.
Conduct quantity take-offs and verify completed works for valuation purposes.
Identify potential commercial risks and recommend appropriate cost-control measures.
Assist in tendering, pricing, cost estimation, and preparation of commercial proposals.
Maintain accurate records of contracts, variations, claims, payment certificates, and other commercial documentation.
Coordinate with Project Managers, Site Engineers, Consultants, Clients, Procurement, Finance, and subcontractors.
Ensure contractual obligations, milestones, deliverables, and payment requirements are properly monitored.
Prepare regular commercial reports and provide management with updates on project financial performance.
Support the resolution of contractual and commercial disputes when required.
Ensure proper close-out of contracts, including final measurements and final accounts.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
4–7 years of relevant experience in contracts and commercial management within the construction industry.
GCC construction experience is mandatory.
Strong knowledge of construction contracts, commercial procedures, and cost management.
Hands-on experience with variations, claims, valuations, payment applications, and final accounts.
Experience handling subcontractor and supplier commercial matters.
Good understanding of FIDIC contracts and other standard construction contract forms.
Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, BOQs, specifications, and contract documents.
Proficiency in MS Excel, AutoCAD, and relevant quantity surveying/commercial software.
Excellent analytical, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects or priorities.
Must be currently available in Bahrain.
Immediate joiners are highly preferred.
Preferred Experience
Experience in residential, commercial, villa, high-rise, or infrastructure construction projects.
Experience working with main contractors, developers, consultants, or subcontractors.
Professional certification or membership such as RICS is an advantage.
