A Weekend Of Local Food And Coastal Views In Southern Vietnam

We wanted to spend a weekend somewhere outside Ho Chi Minh City without creating a complicated itinerary. The plan was simple: find good local food, enjoy the coastline, and take a break from the busy city.

We left early on Saturday morning and headed toward the coast. The drive itself was enjoyable because we could watch the scenery gradually change from busy urban streets to quieter roads and small towns.

Our first memorable stop was a local breakfast restaurant. We ordered several Vietnamese dishes and shared everything at the table. The food was simple but incredibly fresh, and it gave us a taste of how locals start their mornings.

After breakfast, we continued toward the coast. We stopped at several viewpoints along the way, took photos, and spent some time walking near the beach. Unlike a tightly scheduled tour, we didn't feel rushed.

Lunch was another highlight. We found a small seafood restaurant where the menu focused on locally caught seafood. Grilled prawns, squid, and fresh vegetables made for a perfect seaside meal.

In the afternoon, we found a quiet café overlooking the water. Sitting there with Vietnamese coffee while watching the sunset was probably the most relaxing moment of the entire weekend.

For this trip, having a suitable vehicle was important because we carried bags and wanted the flexibility to make spontaneous stops. Before leaving, we looked through different car options here:

The weekend reminded us that you don't always need a detailed itinerary to have a great trip. Sometimes good food, beautiful scenery, and the freedom to explore are enough.
