Power Distribution Losses Fall, But Madhya Pradesh Debt Remains High

Madhya Pradesh reduced aggregate AT&C Losses from 41.72% to 22.76% between FY21 and FY25 and reported a small cost-revenue surplus. Yet its three Power Distribution utilities still carried Rs49,239 crore of borrowings and Rs71,394 crore of accumulated losses. RDSS Scheme network works remain partly completed, while only 40.18 lakh of 1.298 crore sanctioned Smart Metering installations had been completed. Sustained financial improvement now depends on completing infrastructure and reducing legacy liabilities.
