Role Overview: The Waiter / Order Taker is the guest's main point of contact throughout the dining experience, responsible for presenting the menu, guiding guests through selections, and accurately capturing orders. This role requires strong product knowledge, refined etiquette, and close coordination with kitchen and service staff to deliver the attentive, personalized experience expected in a fine dining environment.
Job Description
• Greet and seat guests warmly, presenting the menu and wine list in line with fine dining etiquette.
• Guide guests through menu selections, offering recommendations, describing dishes, and answering questions on ingredients, preparation, and allergens.
• Accurately take food and beverage orders and relay them to the kitchen and bar via the POS system without delay or error.
• Coordinate order timing and course pacing with the kitchen and runners to ensure smooth, well-sequenced service.
• Anticipate guest needs throughout the meal, including refills, course clearing, and special requests, with minimal prompting.
• Process bills accurately and handle payments professionally, including cash, card, and split-bill requests.
• Upsell menu items, specials, and pairings tactfully to enhance the guest experience and support revenue targets.
• Maintain composure and professionalism when resolving guest concerns, escalating to the captain or manager when necessary.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent; a hospitality or culinary certificate is an advantage.
• At least 1–2 years of experience as a waiter or order taker in a fine dining or upscale restaurant, with strong menu and POS knowledge.
