Job purpose:
The Geologist - Processing is responsible for providing geological support and expertise to processing operations in mining and mineral processing facilities. This role involves analyzing geological data, interpreting ore characteristics, and optimizing processing strategies to maximize mineral recovery and production efficiency.
Job Description:
Conduct geological investigations and sampling programs to characterize ore deposits, including lithological, mineralogical, and geochemical analysis, to assess ore quality and variability.Interpret geological data, including drill core logs, assay results, and geological maps, to identify mineralization trends, geological controls, and ore characteristics relevant to processing.Collaborate with mining engineers, metallurgists, and processing plant personnel to develop processing strategies and optimize plant performance based on geological information.Monitor ore feed quality and processing parameters, such as grade, size distribution, and mineralogy, and provide recommendations for process adjustments to maximize recovery and minimize losses.Conduct reconciliation studies to compare planned versus actual production and identify opportunities for improvement in ore blending, processing efficiency, and recovery rates.Assist in the design and implementation of ore blending strategies, including grade control drilling programs and stockpile management, to ensure consistent feed quality to processing plants.Provide geological support for metallurgical testing and process optimization studies, including sample selection, testwork planning, and interpretation of test results.Assist in the development of geological models and resource estimates for mine planning and ore reserve estimation, incorporating geological data into mine plans and production schedules.Monitor environmental impacts of processing activities and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits related to water usage, tailings disposal, and reclamation.Stay updated on industry best practices, technological advancements, and emerging trends in mineral processing and geological modeling, and apply new knowledge to improve processing performance.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or related field; master's degree or specialization in Economic Geology or Mineral Processing is advantageous.
Minimum Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in geology, mineral processing, or related roles, with specific experience in processing plant operations and optimization.Experience with laboratory testing techniques and equipment used in mineral processing, including flotation, gravity separation, & testing.
