Salaries of Merchant Navy in India vary according to rank, experience, company, and type of vessel. Tankers, LNG/LPG carriers generally get higher salaries than other dry vessels.

Ranks In Merchant Navy

Deck side:
Deck Cadet → 3rd Officer → 2nd Officer → Chief Officer → Captain

Engine side:
Engine Cadet → 4th Engineer → 3rd Engineer → 2nd Engineer → Chief Engineer

For a student joining Merchant Navy after Class 12 through DNS, B.Sc. Nautical Science, and B.Tech there is a huge difference in the salaries of Deck Cadets and other ranks, because deck cadets don’t get salaries they get Stipend. For this they have to clear IMUCET Entrance Exam along with that they have to undergo the course period and then after cadetship on ship.
