This private collection includes two rare oil paintings by the prominent Iraqi visual artist Ali Maamar, a student of the renowned Iraqi artist Faeq Hassan, and one of the finest painters of horses in the Arab world. The paintings are distinguished by their deep focus on purebred Arabian horses.
• The first painting, measuring 93 × 78 cm, bears the artist’s signature “Ali Maamar,” along with the distinctive turquoise necklace, his traditional signature mark. It depicts horses from the stables of Her Royal Highness Princess Alia bint Al Hussein.
Its current estimated market value within the Iraqi and Gulf art market, among collectors of Arabian horse paintings, is approximately USD 15,000–20,000.
• The smaller painting, measuring 26 × 33 cm, is currently valued at approximately USD 1,800–3,500.
What distinguishes Ali Maamar’s works today is that they represent a true continuation of Faeq Hassan’s school of Arabian horse painting. It is worth noting that he dedicated 10 years of his work to the Saudi royal palaces, and his works attract the interest of Gulf and Iraqi collectors.
Furthermore, the scarcity of his early and dated works from the 1990s has begun to give these paintings increasing value in the Arab art market.
