According to Vedic tradition, Vedavyasa first composed Jaya, containing around 8,800 verses. It later expanded into Bharata with approximately 24,000 verses and finally became Mahabharata, containing over 100,000 verses.
The word Mahabharata means "The Great History of the Bharata Dynasty." It tells the story of the descendants of King Bharata while revealing profound spiritual teachings, including the Bhagavad Gita.
