Accounting Officer – Travel & Tourism

About the Role

We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Officer to join our Travel & Tourism company. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, processing Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) transactions, performing reconciliations, and assisting in the preparation of financial reports and statements.

The ideal candidate should have a good understanding of accounting principles and practical experience in handling financial transactions within a fast-paced business environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Manage daily accounting transactions and ensure accurate and timely recording of financial entries.
* Handle Accounts Payable (AP), including invoice verification, recording, payment follow-up, and supplier account reconciliation.
* Handle Accounts Receivable (AR), including customer invoicing, receipts, collections follow-up, and customer account reconciliation.
* Review and verify supplier and customer invoices against supporting documents and agreements.
* Prepare and maintain Supplier and Customer Statements of Account (SOA) and investigate discrepancies.
* Perform Bank Reconciliations and ensure all bank transactions are properly recorded.
* Prepare and review Trial Balance and assist in identifying and correcting accounting discrepancies.
* Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, including:
* Income Statement / Profit & Loss
* Balance Sheet / Statement of Financial Position
* Cash Flow Statement
* Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
* Maintain accurate and complete accounting records and supporting documentation.
* Prepare journal entries and ensure proper account classification and cost allocation.
* Monitor outstanding receivables and payables and follow up on overdue balances.
* Reconcile General Ledger (GL) accounts and sub-ledgers.
* Assist with accruals, prepayments, provisions, and other accounting adjustments.
* Support VAT-related accounting activities and ensure proper documentation of taxable transactions.
* Coordinate with internal departments, suppliers, customers, and banks regarding accounting and payment matters.
* Maintain proper filing and documentation of invoices, receipts, payment records, and other financial documents.
* Assist external auditors and management by providing required accounting records and supporting documents.
* Support the Finance Manager / Accountant in preparing financial and management reports.
* Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, procedures, and applicable accounting standards.

Travel & Tourism Accounting Responsibilities

* Record and reconcile transactions related to airline tickets, hotel bookings, transportation, car rentals, visa services, and other travel services.
* Reconcile bookings and supplier invoices with accounting records.
* Monitor customer balances, supplier balances, and outstanding travel-related transactions.
* Reconcile payments made to airlines, hotels, DMCs, transportation providers, and other travel suppliers.
* Verify booking-related revenues, costs, commissions, refunds, cancellations, and adjustments.
* Maintain accurate records of corporate and individual customer accounts.
* Assist in reconciling travel booking systems with the accounting system.
* Track and reconcile credit balances, deposits, refunds, and advance payments.
* Support the preparation of profitability and revenue reports for travel-related services.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
* 1–2 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within the Travel & Tourism, Hospitality, or Services sector.
* Good knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
* Practical experience with AP, AR, GL, SOA, Bank Reconciliation, and Trial Balance.
* Good understanding of Balance Sheet, P&L, and Cash Flow Statement.
* Experience in preparing journal entries and performing account reconciliations.
* Good knowledge of VAT and basic tax accounting requirements.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
* Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Fluent in English; Arabic is an advantage.

Preferred Skills

* Previous experience in a Travel Agency or Travel & Tourism company.
* Familiarity with airline, hotel, and travel supplier reconciliations.
* Experience with travel booking or reservation systems.
* Knowledge of IATA/BSP accounting and reconciliation is an advantage.
* Knowledge of Saudi VAT requirements is preferred.
