Company: Mechanical Fabrication Company
Location: Dammam / KSA
Experience Required: 3 to 5 Years
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Structural Design & Tekla / AutoCAD Engineer with 3 to 5 years of experience in structural analysis, 2D drafting, 3D modeling, and mechanical steel fabrication detailing.
The ideal candidate MUST have a strong Mechanical Engineering / Mechanical Drafting background with specialized expertise in Hot-Rolled Structural Steel (such as heavy steel sheds, pipe racks, equipment platforms, monorails, crane gantry girders, and industrial mechanical supports). The candidate must be capable of combining mechanical design principles with AutoCAD 2D drafting, Tekla 3D modeling, structural analysis, and shop floor fabrication workflows (NC/DSTV files, BOMs, and assembly drawings for CNC machinery).
Key Responsibilities & Duties
1. Mechanical & Structural Background Integration
• Apply mechanical engineering principles to structural steel fabrication, ensuring proper fit-up, tolerances, and integration with mechanical equipment, piping, and industrial machinery.
• Interpret mechanical equipment drawings, piping layouts, and civil/structural drawings to develop integrated steel support structures.
2. Structural Analysis & Hot-Rolled Design
• Perform structural load analysis (Dead, Live, Wind, Seismic, Crane & Dynamic equipment loads) using Tekla Structural Designer, STAAD.Pro, or ETABS.
• Design heavy structural steel members using Hot-Rolled Profiles (HEB, HEA, IPE, UC, UB, Channels, Hollow Sections) as per AISC, BS/EN, and SBC standards.
• Design and verify heavy bolted (High-Strength Bolts) and welded connections (moment, shear, base plates, stiffeners) using IDEA STATICIA, RAM Connection, or Tekla modules.
3. AutoCAD 2D Drafting & Tekla 3D Modeling
• AutoCAD 2D Drafting: Prepare detailed 2D mechanical & structural layout drawings, general arrangements (GA), foundation layouts, anchor bolt plans, cross-sections, and mechanical connection details.
• Tekla 3D Modeling: Build complete 3D Tekla Structures models for hot-rolled steel structures and mechanical supports.
• Convert AutoCAD 2D structural concepts and mechanical hand sketches into fully parametric 3D Tekla models and vice versa.
• Conduct clash detection using Navisworks / Tekla BIMsight to resolve mechanical equipment and structural steel clashes before shop release.
4. Fabrication & Workshop Deliverables
• Generate and release complete shop fabrication packages:
o 2D Shop / Assembly Drawings (Beams, Columns, Bracings, Mechanical Frames, Monorails).
o Single-Part Drawings for plates, gussets, base plates, and individual profiles with clear machining and fitting tolerances.
o Erection Marking Plans with clear piece marks for field installation.
• Export accurate DSTV / NC files for CNC beam sawing, drilling, and plate processing machines.
• Extract accurate Bill of Materials (BOM), Cutting Lists, Bolt Summaries, Material Take-Offs (MTO), and total tonnage reports.
• Incorporate shop floor requirements including welding symbols (AWS/ISO), weld prep gaps, and surface treatment specifications (Sandblasting, Industrial Coating Systems like APCS, Hot-Dip Galvanizing).
5. Shop Floor & Mechanical Workshop Support
• Support the fabrication workshop team, fitters, and QC inspectors to clarify drawing queries (RFIs) and resolve fit-up/assembly issues on the shop floor.
• Coordinate with mechanical, piping, and architectural teams to ensure seamless execution.
Key Qualifications & Skill Requirements
• Education & Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Diploma in Mechanical Drafting / Mechanical Engineering Technology (Mandatory).
• Experience: 3 to 5 years specifically in Mechanical Fabrication & Hot-Rolled Structural Steel detailing, 2D drafting, and 3D modeling.
• Software Proficiency:
o 2D Drafting: AutoCAD (Advanced 2D drafting, dynamic blocks, layer management).
o 3D Modeling: Tekla Structures (Advanced hot-rolled steel modeling & detailing).
o Analysis Tools: Tekla Structural Designer (TSD), STAAD.Pro, or ETABS.
o Connection Design: IDEA Statica, RAM Connection, or Tekla Connection Design.
o BIM / Coordination: Navisworks, AutoCAD.

• Mechanical & Fabrication Knowledge: Strong command of hot-rolled structural shapes (HEB, IPE, H-Beams, PFCs), steel material grades (S275, S355, A36, A572), welding standards (AWS D1.1), machining tolerances, and CNC processing formats.
• Codes & Standards: AISC 360, AWS D1.1, BS EN 1993, and SBC (Saudi Building Code).
Preferred Attributes
• Hands-on mechanical workshop or structural steel fabrication plant experience.
• Strong ability to read and bridge both Mechanical Equipment / Piping drawings and Civil/Structural engineering packages.
• Direct shop-floor background in heavy structural steel fabrication.
• Ability to work efficiently in both 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D (Tekla) environments depending on project requirements.
• Strong problem-solving skills for connection design and shop assembly logic.
