Job Description: Mechanical Engineer – Railway Equipment Maintenance
Position Overview
The Mechanical Engineer for Railway Equipment Maintenance is responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and operational efficiency of railway depot equipment .
This role combines hands-on technical leadership, maintenance planning, and continuous improvement to support the Site.
The engineer leads technical teams in executing preventive and corrective maintenance programs, ensuring compliance with industry safety standards .

Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance Planning & Execution
• Lead and supervise teams of technicians and assistant engineers in carrying out scheduled Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Corrective Maintenance (CM) on electric trains, engineering vehicles, components, and depot equipment to meet daily production requirements .
• Optimize the scope and tasks of the maintenance plan, defining required materials and processes for overhaul and repair projects .
• Conduct routine inspections, fault diagnosis, and repairs on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems .
• Oversee strip-down, inspection, and rebuild of grinding heads, motors, gearboxes, bogies, wheelsets, and drive assemblies .
• Ensure all work is completed in line with approved work instructions, quality procedures, safety protocols, and established standard times .
2. Technical Support & Troubleshooting
• Provide hands-on technical support for any failures in cooperation with railway in depot equipment’s
• Perform structured root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for mechanical system failures .
• Diagnose hydraulic pressure faults, mechanical wear issues, and basic electrical control system faults .
• Support obsolescence management and troubleshooting of Maintenance Management Information Systems (MMIS) setup .
3. Documentation & Compliance
• Manage, prepare, and review technical and industrial documentation, including maintenance manuals, work instructions, technical reports, specifications, and defect analysis summaries .
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards, regulatory requirements.
• Conduct risk assessments for proposed changes, authorizing maintenance concession requests where necessary .
• Validate depot servicing processes, maintenance workflows, and lifecycle asset management plans .
4. Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement
• Support the Product Safety management system to ensure safety risks are mitigated .
• Conduct safety audits, participate in incident investigations, and implement improvements to safety protocols .
• Identify and drive improvement actions in maintenance operations, performing engineering interface activities with Operations, EHS, and Quality teams .
• Monitor the performance, reliability, and maintainability of rolling stock systems to ensure compliance with RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) targets .
5. Team Leadership & Resource Management
• Plan and coordinate within teams and with other sections to complete assigned maintenance tasks on time .
• Ensure the team possesses the necessary qualifications and authorizations (e.g., shunter, overhead crane operator) to carry out daily tasks .
• Manage and monitor inventory of materials, tools, and equipment .
• Develop and maintain the section budget, ensuring prudent expenditure .
• Oversee team rosters and shifts to ensure efficient work execution .

Qualifications & Experience
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline .
Experience
• 2-5+ years of experience in a maintenance or engineering environment (railway or heavy industrial experience preferred) .
• Demonstrated experience in technical documentation for equipment reviews and overhaul projects .
• Proven ability to fault-find and work across mechanical and pneumatic systems .
Technical Skills
• Strong knowledge of railway in depot equipment, subsystems, and heavy mechanical systems .
• Proficiency in maintenance planning, work instructions, and CMMS/Maximo systems .
