Import Executive — Typical Requirements

An Import Executive manages the process of bringing goods from international suppliers into the country, from purchase order through customs clearance and final delivery.

Key responsibilities

Coordinate international purchase orders and supplier shipments.

Communicate with suppliers, freight forwarders, shipping lines, and customs agents.

Prepare and verify commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading/airway bills, certificates of origin, and other import documents.

Track shipments and ensure timely delivery.

Coordinate customs clearance and resolve documentation issues.

Check Incoterms such as FOB, CIF, and EXW.

Calculate and monitor landed costs, including freight, duties, taxes, and clearance charges.

Maintain import records and update ERP systems.

Monitor inventory and coordinate with the warehouse and supply-chain team.

Negotiate freight and supplier costs where applicable.

Ensure compliance with applicable import regulations.

Useful qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Business, Commerce, or a related field.

Typically 2–5 years of import/procurement experience.

Good knowledge of international shipping and customs procedures.

Strong Excel and ERP skills.

Good English communication and documentation skills.
