About the Role
We are seeking an accomplished Senior Technical / Business Leader to lead technical operations, maintenance, asset performance, and capability development for a large-scale gas-fired thermal power generation operation in Nigeria.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in gas power plant operations and maintenance, strong expertise in heavy-duty gas turbines, and a proven track record of improving plant reliability, reducing downtime, optimizing heat rate, and leading large multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide strategic and technical leadership across power generation operations and maintenance.
• Lead Operations, Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation & Control (I&C) functions.
• Improve plant availability, reliability, generation output, and heat-rate performance.
• Lead major gas turbine overhauls, refurbishment, upgrades, and modernization projects.
• Identify and eliminate the root causes of equipment failures, trips, and forced outages.
• Drive predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance programs using modern CMMS systems.
• Optimize fuel consumption and address gas supply and plant performance challenges.
• Manage CAPEX, OPEX, maintenance budgets, vendors, OEMs, and technical contractors.
• Strengthen technical capabilities through coaching, mentoring, knowledge transfer, and succession planning.
• Ensure compliance with HSE, statutory, environmental, and engineering standards.
• Lead a large multidisciplinary workforce and drive continuous operational improvement.
• Work closely with senior stakeholders, government/regulatory bodies, consultants, OEMs, and strategic partners.
Candidate Profile
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Power Systems, or related Engineering.
• Master's degree in Engineering or MBA preferred/required.
• 25+ years of experience in thermal/gas power plant operations and maintenance.
• Minimum 10 years in senior/executive technical leadership positions.
• Strong experience with heavy-duty gas turbines and gas-fired power generation.
• Proven experience in plant turnaround, asset restoration, modernization, and technical troubleshooting.
• Experience managing large multidisciplinary engineering/O&M teams.
• Strong commercial, financial, strategic, and stakeholder-management capabilities.
• Professional engineering registration such as COREN, NSE, IEEE, or an internationally recognized equivalent.
• Candidates with significant expatriate or international power-sector experience are preferred.
• Willingness to relocate to Nigeria.
