1. Job Summary
The Machinist is responsible for operating and maintaining machine tools to manufacture, repair, modify, and finish mechanical components according to engineering drawings, technical specifications, and required tolerances. The role involves machining operations, equipment maintenance, dimensional inspection, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
2. Key Responsibilities
Operate conventional machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, grinders, and other workshop equipment.
Manufacture, repair, and modify mechanical parts, shafts, bushings, sleeves, flanges, and other machine components.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical sketches, and machining specifications.
Perform turning, milling, drilling, boring, threading, grinding, and other machining operations.
Measure and verify component dimensions using precision instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, dial gauges, and bore gauges.
Ensure machined components meet specified tolerances, dimensions, and surface-finish requirements.
Select appropriate cutting tools, machining parameters, and materials for each job.
Carry out repair and re-machining of worn or damaged mechanical components.
Perform routine inspection, cleaning, and basic maintenance of machine tools and workshop equipment.
Identify machining defects and take corrective action to maintain product quality.
Maintain machining records, job cards, and workshop documentation as required.
Follow all company procedures, workshop safety regulations, and applicable PPE requirements.
Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure safe handling of tools, materials, and equipment.
Coordinate with maintenance engineers, supervisors, and other workshop personnel to complete jobs within the required timeframe.
3. Qualifications
Technical diploma, vocational certificate, or ITI qualification in Machining, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Relevant machinist training or certification is an advantage.
4. Experience
Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Machinist in an industrial workshop, manufacturing facility, or maintenance environment.
Experience operating conventional lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, and grinding machines.
Experience in precision machining, component repair, and working to engineering drawings is preferred.
Oil and gas, petrochemical, power plant, or heavy industrial experience is an advantage.
