Position: Cladding Machine Operator
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Automated Cladding Machine Operator with hands-on experience operating Polysoude and/or Fronius automated and semi-automated welding systems.
The ideal candidate should have practical experience in cladding operations for API 6A and API 6D products, particularly gate valve and ball valve components. The candidate must possess a good understanding of welding parameters, machine programming, welding documentation, consumables, and basic welding inspection requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Automated Cladding Machine Operation
- Operate automated and semi-automated cladding machines, particularly Polysoude and Fronius systems.
- Perform cladding operations on oil and gas industry components.
- Carry out machine setup, alignment, torch positioning, and component preparation.
- Monitor welding operations to ensure consistent weld quality and productivity.
2. API 6A & API 6D Product Experience
Hands-on experience in cladding the following components is preferred:
- API 6A Gate Valve Components:
- Face cladding
- Ring groove cladding
- Seat pocket cladding
- Bore cladding
- API 6D Ball Valve Components:
- Spherical surface cladding
Ability to understand engineering drawings, component dimensions, and cladding requirements is essential.
3. Welding Parameters & Programming
- Knowledge of welding current, voltage, wire feed speed, travel speed, heat input, and shielding gas flow.
- Ability to program automated welding machines and adjust welding parameters.
- Understanding of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and welding requirements.
- Knowledge of torch positioning and oscillation parameters.
4. Welding Documentation
- Read and interpret weld maps, Weld Data Sheets, and welding instructions.
- Ensure compliance with approved WPS and production requirements.
- Maintain accurate welding parameters and production records.
5. Welding Consumables
- Knowledge of welding wires, filler materials, shielding gases, and tungsten electrodes.
- Understanding of proper consumable handling and storage requirements.
6. NDE & Welding Inspection
- Basic understanding of Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) methods:
- Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)
- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Radiographic Testing (RT)
- Awareness of common welding defects and applicable acceptance criteria.
7. Machine Maintenance
- Perform basic preventive maintenance of cladding equipment.
- Inspect torch assemblies, wire feeders, cooling systems, and shielding gas systems.
- Identify and troubleshoot common machine operating faults.
- Maintain equipment cleanliness and operational readiness.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Hands-on experience in manual TIG (GTAW) welding.
- Basic experience in manual Arc (SMAW) welding.
- Knowledge of weld defects, weld quality, and repair techniques.
- Previous experience in oil and gas manufacturing facilities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Technical diploma or vocational qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Relevant experience as an Automated Cladding Machine Operator or Welding Operator.
- Practical experience with Polysoude and/or Fronius welding systems is highly desirable.
- Experience in API 6A and API 6D product manufacturing will be an advantage.
