1. Bunionectomy (Exostectomy) - Removal of the bony bump (excess bone) on the side of the first metatarsal head. Doesn’t address the underlying alignment problem, often combined with other procedures.
2. Osteotomy - Cutting and realigning the bones in the big toe joint. For mild to moderate bunions; cut made in a “V” shape. More complex; allows greater correction.
3. Lapidus Procedure - Fusion of the first metatarsal bone with the medial cuneiform to stabilize the joint. Severe or recurrent bunions, hypermobility, or flatfoot deformities. Strong correction and reduced recurrence.
4. Minimally Invasive Bunion Surgery - Small incisions with special tools to correct bone position. Less tissue trauma, quicker healing, smaller scars.
5. Arthrodesis (Joint Fusion) - Fusing the big toe joint (metatarsophalangeal joint). Severe arthritis with bunions, or failed previous surgeries.
Your orthopaedic or foot and ankle specialist in Singapore will recommend the best procedure based on: Severity of the deformity, Age and activity level, Joint condition (arthritic or not), Recurrence or failed previous surgeries.
