1️⃣ Week 1–2: Immediate Post-Surgery Phase - Swelling, bruising, and moderate pain, Foot kept elevated most of the time, Surgical dressing and protective shoe or boot.
What to do: Strict rest and elevation, Ice therapy (as advised), Short, limited walking only. Pain is usually manageable with medication and reduces steadily after the first week.
2️⃣ Week 3–6: Early Healing & Limited Mobility - Swelling gradually reduces, Stitches removed (usually around week 2–3), Able to put more weight on the foot (with support).
What to do: Begin gentle toe movement exercises, Use surgical shoe or walking boot, Avoid long walks or standing. This phase is critical—overdoing it can delay healing.
3️⃣ Week 6–8: Transition to Normal Footwear - Improved foot strength and flexibility, Reduced pain during walking, Some swelling may still persist.
What to do: Switch to wide, supportive footwear, Start light physiotherapy if advised, Resume desk work or light duties. Tight or narrow shoes can undo surgical correction—choose wisely.
4️⃣ Month 3–4: Functional Recovery Phase - Minimal pain, Better balance and walking comfort, Swelling only after prolonged activity.
What to do: Increase walking distance gradually, Resume low-impact activities (cycling, swimming), Continue strengthening exercises. Most patients feel “normal” during daily activities by this stage.
