Position Overview: We are seeking a talented Junior Pastry Chef / Pastry Commis to support pastry production and create exceptional baked goods at our prestigious luxury café in Riyadh. This developing role offers the opportunity to refine pastry techniques, expand creative skills, and grow within a quality-focused pastry environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in preparing a variety of pastries, desserts, baked goods, and confections according to established recipes and techniques, ensuring consistent quality, proper execution, and presentation that reflects luxury café standards.
Execute fundamental pastry techniques including dough preparation, baking, tempering chocolate, making creams and fillings, and assembling desserts under the guidance of senior pastry staff.
Prepare bread, viennoiserie, and breakfast pastries including croissants, Danish pastries, brioche, and specialty breads, demonstrating understanding of fermentation, lamination, and proper baking techniques.
Plate and present desserts with attention to visual appeal, portion control, and artistic presentation, incorporating garnishes, sauces, and decorative elements that enhance the luxury dining experience.
Assist with creating display items for the pastry showcase, ensuring cakes, tarts, pastries, and confections are arranged attractively and maintain freshness throughout service periods.
Support special occasion dessert preparations including customized cakes, plated desserts for celebrations, and seasonal offerings, working collaboratively with the pastry team to meet guest requirements.
Maintain organization and cleanliness of the pastry kitchen, work stations, and equipment, following strict hygiene standards, proper food handling procedures, and ensuring an efficient, safe working environment.
Prepare daily mise en place for the pastry section including measuring ingredients, preparing components, organizing production schedules, and ensuring all elements are ready for service and display.
Manage ingredient inventory for pastry operations, monitoring stock levels of flour, sugar, chocolate, dairy, and specialty items, properly storing ingredients, and informing senior staff of replenishment needs.
Actively develop pastry knowledge and techniques by learning from senior pastry chefs, practicing new skills, understanding ingredient functionality, and demonstrating commitment to professional growth in pastry arts.
Qualifications
Minimum 1-2 years of pastry experience in bakeries, hotels, restaurants, or café environments, with foundational knowledge of pastry techniques and genuine passion for baking and dessert creation.
Basic to good English communication skills required for following recipes and instructions; Arabic language ability beneficial for team collaboration in Riyadh's culinary environment.
Pastry or culinary training preferred. Must demonstrate creativity, attention to detail, manual dexterity, understanding of baking principles, ability to follow recipes precisely, physical stamina for extended standing, and enthusiasm for learning advanced pastry techniques and presentation skills.
