Barge Supervisor

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Barge Supervisor to oversee all barge operations including loading, unloading, towing, mooring, and maintenance activities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe and efficient barge operations, managing deck crew, coordinating with tugboats and project teams, and maintaining compliance with marine safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
Supervise all barge operations including loading, unloading, ballasting, and cargo securing

Coordinate with tugboat masters and pilots for barge towing and positioning

Manage deck crew and assign daily tasks for mooring, anchoring, and cargo handling

Ensure proper distribution and securing of cargo to maintain barge stability

Conduct daily inspections of barge hull, deck, hatches, and mooring equipment

Monitor barge draft, ballast levels, and stability conditions during loading/unloading

Coordinate with project site teams for timely delivery and positioning of barges

Enforce safety regulations including PPE, permit-to-work, and man-overboard procedures

Maintain daily logs of barge activities, cargo manifests, and crew attendance

Communicate with vessel traffic services and port control during transit and berthing

Ensure compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, and inland waterway regulations as applicable

Supervise routine maintenance including painting, welding repairs, and equipment checks

Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings for barge crew before each operation

Report incidents, near-misses, or equipment failures to Marine Superintendent

Coordinate with classification surveyors for barge inspections and certification renewals

Manage bunkering, freshwater, and provisions for barge crew during operations
