• Treating injuries and diseases, including prescribing medications
• Performing surgeries (e.g., spaying/neutering, emergency operations)
• Giving vaccinations to prevent diseases like Rabies
Preventive care
• Routine health check-ups
• Advising owners on nutrition, hygiene, and general care
• Monitoring animal growth and development
Animal handling & welfare
• Safely handling and restraining animals
• Ensuring animals are treated ethically and humanely
• Sometimes making difficult decisions like euthanasia when necessary
Specialized work (depends on field)
• Livestock vets: herd health, disease control, food safety
• Wildlife vets: conservation and treatment of wild animals
• Equine vets: care for horses
• Research vets: work in labs studying diseases or developing medicines
Communication & admin
• Explaining conditions and treatments to pet owners
• Keeping medical records
• Managing clinic operations (if running a practice)
