Commissioning & Start-Up Engineer – Desalination Plant

We are seeking an experienced Commissioning & Start-Up Engineer with extensive experience in large-scale seawater desalination plants. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and managing all commissioning and start-up activities, ensuring the safe and successful transition of the plant from construction to commercial operation.
The ideal candidate should possess strong knowledge of High-Pressure Pump (HPP) and Energy Recovery Device (ERD) synchronization, commissioning procedures, process optimization, and final plant handover.

Key Responsibilities
Lead commissioning and start-up activities for large-scale desalination plants.
Develop and execute commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules.
Perform pre-commissioning, commissioning, performance testing, and start-up activities.
Coordinate the synchronization and optimization of High-Pressure Pumps (HPP) and Energy Recovery Devices (ERD).
Verify mechanical completion and readiness for commissioning.
Troubleshoot mechanical and process-related issues during commissioning.
Coordinate with engineering, construction, operations, vendors, and client representatives.
Conduct functional testing of desalination process equipment and associated systems.
Ensure all systems meet design specifications, performance guarantees, and HSE requirements.
Support process optimization to achieve plant performance targets.
Prepare commissioning reports, punch lists, and completion documentation.
Lead plant performance testing and reliability runs.
Manage the successful handover of commissioned systems to the Operations team.
Ensure compliance with applicable international standards, company procedures, and client requirements.

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in:
Mechanical Engineering
Chemical Engineering
Process Engineering
Or a related engineering discipline

Experience
Minimum 10–15 years of experience in desalination plant commissioning and start-up.
Proven experience in commissioning large-scale SWRO (Seawater Reverse Osmosis) desalination plants.

Demonstrated experience in:
Plant start-up
Commissioning
Performance testing
Plant handover

Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of:
SWRO desalination processes
High-Pressure Pumps (HPP)
Energy Recovery Devices (ERD)
HPP–ERD synchronization
High-pressure piping systems
Membrane systems
Process control systems (PLC/DCS)
Mechanical equipment commissioning
Water treatment processes
Ability to interpret P&IDs, PFDs, and engineering drawings.
Familiarity with commissioning software and documentation systems.

Preferred Competencies
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
Ability to work under pressure during critical start-up phases.
Leadership experience managing multidisciplinary commissioning teams.
Strong commitment to safety and quality standards.
Excellent documentation and reporting skills.

Preferred Project Experience
Candidates with commissioning experience on large desalination projects (typically 10,000–100,000+ m³/day SWRO plants) will be highly preferred.
